Review: Psychic Burger Launch Party at The Old Queen’s Head

Psychic Burger first appeared on my radar last summer when they were getting lots of press attention for their soft-shell crab burger. You can read my review of their time at Dalston’s Birthdays here. Since then, they’ve changed residency to The Old Queen’s Head in Angel. A regular stomping ground for my friends and I, as we often attend Shut the Front Door’s monthly events at The Old Queen’s Head.

Psychic Burger’s Launch Party took place on the 24th of April at The Old Queen’s Head to celebrate the move to their new home! I popped along for the evening with my flatmate, who coincidentally is the co-founder of Shut the Front Door – which fortunately meant queue jump at the door!

For one evening only, Psychic Burger were giving away 200 free burger and 300 Camden Town Brewery bottles of larger. Burgers were brought out in trays and it was literally service on a first come, first serve basis.

As a result of which it took us a good hour to get our hands on a meat dripping, juicy steak burger. Topped with American cheese, pickles, ketchup and mustard it was worth the wait! Psychic’s beef patties are a 172g blend of chunk steak and fore-rib, cooked medium rare it really is something.

All be it, somebody else had hold of the top of my burger bun. But it’s okay – they let it go.

Camden Town Brewery largers also went down a treat during the evening, a nice accompaniment to Psychics original burger.

To be honest, the whole evening at The Old Queen’s Head was a shambles. It was crazy (and highly amusing) watching hungry mouthed Londoners grab for a free burger. I was embarrassed (and entertained) at how us Brits react to free food! What is wrong with us!! That said, Psychic burgers are worth fighting for. I’ll definitely be back for a more relaxed night of meat, or perhaps I’ll give the crab burger another go!
