The Kenton

North of Victoria Park and on the way to Dalston you’ll find The Kenton, a transformed boozer that has been turned from football supporters’ watering hole to DJ pub with urban artwork and gallery space. Norwegian Egil Johansen is the man responsible for the about-turn, injecting some much needed style from a biscuit coloured paint job for the exterior to the grafitti in the beer garden, I especially like giant moosehead overlooking the bar – a donation from Egil’s grandfather. Along with food and drink you get DJs every Friday and Saturday, weekly quiz nights, plus film nights every Monday.

The Kenton is a friendly neighbourhood-pub that offers great wines, beers, ales, and cocktails. The Kenton serves a fine selection of food including everyones favourite filler, pie & mash, from their friends at ‘Pieminister’. Plus an immense Sunday Roasts on Sundays.

Thursday night is Ladies Night at The Kenton, E9 7AB. So, seeing as this Thursday was International Woman’s Day – what better way to celebrate than join in with the vintage jumble sales, nail decoration, cakes and cocktails!

Pow Wow Nails

My friends and I went with the intention of getting our nails done by the Pow Wow Nail Parlour girls.

The nail art duo Gabi and Sammy J paint colourful and fun nails, from leopard prints, spots, sparkles, strips & even cartoon characters! Based in East London, the girls attend the weekly ‘Ladies Night’ at The Kenton Pub.

Decorate every little finger and thumb for just £12.50! I think that’s a bargain considering they hand paint every nail to your chosen design. Just to be difficult my friends & I decided to go for a different design on each of our fingers!

Visit PowWow Nails on Facebook and follow them on Twitter for all the latest events and updates. PowWow Nails also have a tumblr blog which is great for having a look at all their existing clients.

Last night, we were all very happy with our finished designs! Gabi and Sammy J were both really friendly and chatty, it was great to get your nails done in a relaxed pub atmosphere, whilest drinking your favourite tipple!

23/03/2012 Update

PowWow have recently updated their pricing. They now offer nail painting at a flat rate of £15 per person. If you want every finger nail to have a different design then it’s another £5. Just to put that in context, everybody that I’ve shown my PowWow nails too has asked how much it is and presumed that it was at least twenty quid… therefore I think it is still very decent especially due to their attention to detail hand painting each design you choose.

# Update End

Ladies Night at the Kenton also offers a weekly Vintage Jumble,  plus Cocktails on offer and cupcakes! Next week there will be an added feature, The Hair Parlour: Fringe Trims £5, Straitening or Curling From £5, Victory Rolls, Braids and Up-Styles From £7.50.
