My fellow blogging friends took the micky out of my previous fancy dress post, yes I get that it may not be as exciting as a pop-up steak restaurant review or a London art exhibition post but you know I have to work with my current resources! That said, I am on my way back down to London tomorrow as I have been invited back to the Christmas Party at the company I worked for during my placement year. Last year the 2011/12 interns organised a Circus Themed event which went down a treat so I’m looking forward to seeing whether this year’s interns have put together something better.
The theme is “Heroes & Villains” which is lucky for me, as I have attended a Heroes & Villains party before. On that occasion, back in November 2010 I dressed up as the Snow Queen from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. My ex boyfriend dressed as Aslan, the Lion so it worked quite well as a Hero and Villain pair.
As you can see from the photos in the collage above, I wore a white fur shawl which I bought for £7 something on eBay, it’s a child’s age 13! I wore the shawl over a big white t-shirt from Topshop and a pair of thin sequin leggings which I bought from Aftershock in the sale. Teamed with a fluffy crown (from Tesco? if I recall correctly) and some sparkly face paint I became the Snow Queen! I based my face-paint design and colour scheme on a design by Snazaroo using the Classic White, Sparkle Turquoise and Stardust Glitter Gel, have a look at the colour collection here.
So, you can see what direction this post is heading in – an improved Snow Queen two years on? You are correct. Let’s start with some inspiration.
I created this template on Polyvore in order to incorporate some of the new items I’ve purchased with the old. The main item to point out is the gorgeous Silver Sequin Trouser from River Island, purchased from Asos. The best thing about these is that they are certainly something I will wear again, perhaps for New Years Eve. The other item from above to mention is the Twenties Feather Hair Band also purchased from Asos for £15. I decided to go for this instead of a plastic crown as I feel it’s more classier and subtle.
So bringing together the Sequin Trousers and Hair Band I will be dusting the facepaint off the gloriously tacky (tacky in style) white fur shawl and joining with a white t-shirt I bought a while back in Primark.
Next for some sparkles! Alongside my usual make-up essentials, featured here, I’ve opted for Eylure 110 Evening Wear lashes on my eyes and Barry M Silvery Lilac (324) on my nails. Then for the real Snow Queen detail, I picked up some adhesive gems and snowflake “glitterations” from The Range. I chose the adhesive stones in Pale Blue (104PCS) and the Glitterations Snowflasks in White (ANT 8181913).
Final outfit… I promise to add a photo from the event when I return home from London but in the meantime here is the final outfit! Let me know what you think!
